7 August, 2024Student protests in Bangladesh, sparked by the government's reinstatement of a job quota system favouring descendants from the independence war in 1971, have had a severe impact on the country's manufacturing industries. The garment sector, in particular, has been hit hard, exacerbating the already fragile conditions for workers and significantly disrupting their livelihoods. The violent government response to the protests has resulted in over 450 deaths, highlighting the deadly nature of the unrest.

IndustriALL Global Union and IndustriAll Europe condemn recent Russian attack on Ukraine

16 July, 2024A Russian missile attack on Ukraine on 8 July killed 44 people and injured 196 people. IndustriAll Europe and IndustriALL Global Union condemn this attack and reiterate their support and solidarity with the Ukrainian people and trade unions, and all workers affected. Both organizations call on the United Nations, the international community and the European Commission, Council and Parliament to guarantee reinforced political support for an immediate peace in Ukraine.

Organizing electronics workers along the entire supply chain

17 June, 2024IndustriALL Global Union ICT electrical and electronics steering committee pledges to double organizing efforts to defend workers' rights in the sector. The delegates from twelve countries met on 10-11 June in Kuala Lumpur to debate sectoral activities, focusing on organizing, increasing union density and improving collective bargaining rights. Delegates confirmed their unions’ continued focus to reach out to women, youth, white collar workers and organize them throughout the entire supply chain.

While some of them were released afterwards, many of them are still in prison, and those who have been released are under constant harassment and persecution and have been placed on undesirable lists that make it impossible for them to receive adequate health care and apply for jobs.
